“We are waiting for an official announcement coupled with tangible promises regarding access points, allowing food deliveries, and stopping the killing, devastation and displacement.”

Nearby, a 64-year-old man named Abbas Hassouna explained that his household were “waiting for a formal proclamation and dependable pledges for border access, ensuring food arrives, and ceasing the slaughter, destruction and eviction”.

“Once these developments occur, at that point we will fully accept them. However currently, apprehension persists. Parties might renege suddenly or violate the accord like previous instances stranding us amid the continuous pattern with nothing changing just further agony,” said Hassouna, a native of Gaza’s north though he has faced expulsion several times.

Conflicting Feelings Among Inhabitants

Ola al-Nazli, 47 mentioned she discovered about the truce from her neighbours in al-Mawasi. “I felt confused how to feel, about feeling joyful or mournful. We’ve lived through comparable events repeatedly in the past, and on each occasion we were disappointed again, consequently this occasion apprehension and wariness have reached new heights,” Nazli revealed, who was compelled to evacuate her dwelling in the urban center because of the recent armed conflict in that area.

“Everyone lives in tents which offer little protection from chilly conditions or from the bombing. People possessing resources or work lost everything. This explains why our relief is accompanied by suffering and anxiety. I only hope that we might exist securely, without explosive noises, not be forced to move, and that access points will be accessible quickly,” said Nazli.

Aid Measures Ongoing
