Wales' Jordan James nets the Welsh team to important World Cup win over Liechtenstein.

The Welsh side secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over international minnows Liechtenstein to sustain their aspirations of World Cup qualifying.

The young midfielder notched his maiden goal for Wales from near the goal after Liechtenstein’s assorted collection of professionals, amateurs and part-timers had held out for the majority of the match. James wheeled away in elation with his obvious relief echoed by the three thousand Wales supporters filling most sections of the venue in the capital.

Shortly after, yet, Jordan James was cautioned and a further booking for Ethan Ampadu ensured the pair are ruled out for the upcoming crucial match with North Macedonia due to accumulated bookings.

That home venue fixture is a game Wales have to secure victory in to leapfrog their rivals and secure a more favourable seeding in the playoffs in March.

The Wales manager had an unusual perspective from the dugout, the Wales manager serving a touchline ban after receiving a second yellow card in the tournament previously.

Bellamy’s assistant Cremers stood in in the dugout and several key players – Jordan James, Ethan Ampadu, Rodon, Williams – were a booking away from being absent for the concluding match. Both James and Ampadu received cautions in moments that may damage their team.

The home side, ranked near the bottom in global rankings, had been goalless in their winless run and conceded 23 times at an rate of almost four per fixture.

Wales unsurprisingly had most of the play as their hosts adopted a low defensive block and defended in numbers.

Their opponent's target remained unthreatened until the forward's pressing won possession and James saw his shot from the penalty area parried by the goalkeeper.

A similar move worked the next opening, James locating Broadhead now with a accurate delivery into space.

The attacker's fine touch evaded the keeper but the Wrexham striker was unable to score from a tight angle.

The Welsh team felt they scored the opener after the first half when James nodded a lofted Sorba Thomas set-piece back into a congested six-yard box.

The Liechtenstein keeper was under pressure by Lawlor and Joe Rodon, and his poor clearance landed with Broadhead who finished powerfully. But Welsh elation were halted when the official was directed to the pitchside monitor and determined that at least one of the Wales centre-halves was in an offside position from Jordan's initial touch.

Wales raised the tempo after the half-time and Sorba Thomas delivered a centering pass to the far post which the winger hit the crossbar.

Williams then headed wide from within the penalty box as it appeared like a frustrating evening for Wales.

But, with the contest having reached its second half, Neco Williams delivered a intelligent through ball for his teammate to get in behind the Liechtenstein defenders.

James bypassed Büchel with a delightful ball along the six-yard box, and his namesake Jordan James had the simple opportunity of relieving Welsh nerves.
